Project/Program Overview

The Communications Assistant will join a high performing international team supporting marketing, internal communications, social media engagement, and external campaigns to deliver effective, thoughtful, and impactful communications across General Dynamics Mission Systems–International. The successful candidate will be an energetic self-starter with a keen eye for detail, a passion for online engagement, and the ability to juggle often competing priorities. As this will be a remote role, the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, attend and actively participate in video meetings, and develop and sustain internal relationships will be fundamental. 


Our first and foremost priority remains the health and safety of our colleagues. As a result, this role will be working remotely for the foreseeable future. The primary location of this role is Ottawa.


  • Develop a wide array of written materials, including: social media posts, web content, internal communications products, and marketing collateral
  • Assist in the development, co-ordination, and execution of the social media strategy, including conducting analytics to inform that strategy
  • Shoot and edit photos/videos, and assist with post-production
  • Work as a successful team member in a collaborative, cooperative work environment
  • Work in line with brand guidelines
  • Carry out ad-hoc communication projects and events, as required

Writing skills

  • Strong communication and storytelling abilities
  • Ability to simplify complex concepts and describe them in concise and engaging ways
  • Ability to create compelling calls to action to drive an audience to engage

Design skills

  • Naturally creative person who can put together visually pleasing designs that grab attention
  • Basic-intermediate knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite applications (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects)
  • Experience in video editing
