Project/Program Overview

General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada currently has a requirement for a Co-op Systems Engineer Student for 16 months with our Land and Joint Systems Business Area.

This role will be a combination of working remotely and onsite at our Calgary office. We have a number of measures in place for onsite working – our top priority remains the health and safety of our colleagues.


  • Review of system and subsystem requirements specifications, interface control documents, design documents and use cases.
  • Development of system integration and verification test procedures, including configuration descriptions and expected outcomes, in accordance with the design documents and company processes.
  • Develop test scripts for manual and automated tests.
  • Execute test procedures to verify functional specifications and gather data on technical performance measures.
  • Perform investigations to stress test the system components and functionalities and raise system problem reports for further analysis.
  • Develop test plans and test reports for internal and external distribution.
  • Participate in integrated project team activities involving representatives from system engineering, FW development, and customer teams.


  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, System Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or related technical/scientific degree.
  • Strong communications abilities, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated initiative and willingness to learn.
  • Experience in systems & requirements engineering preferred.
  • Some understanding and exposure to the product development life cycle and associated processes.
  • Some understanding and exposure to the engineering development, system integration, testing, and qualification processes.
  • Experience in investigating and resolving technical problems.
  • Co-op or internship experience is desirable.

Experience with any of the following is an asset:

  • Familiarity with radios, voice/data networks, and networking protocols
  • Awareness of test automation principles, possesses, and applicable skills for implementation
  • Preference with experience in Linux, Python, and Git
  • Familiarity with LabView application development, WireShark network monitoring toolset, Enterprise Architect, and/or Rational Team Concert (total suite).

Must be able to obtain and maintain Canadian Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment. Eligibility to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
