Project/Program Overview

We are looking for a Co-op Student to join our team. In this role you will participate in the development, integration, and maintenance of Cortex, a “development environment as a product” to be used by future projects to enable them to get up and running in a short amount of time. Our team is an important part of the DevOps movement aiming to modernize the engineering development experience within the company. Cortex delivers engineering capabilities and automates the deployment and management of these using a variety of tools such as Kubernetes, Docker, Rancher, Ansible, and Terraform.

 

The selected candidate will work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative team environment, with peers within their team and across other projects. They will get the opportunity to experience a challenging and diverse variety of tasks through the entire software development life cycle.

Responsibilities

Your Day to Day Will Include

  • Participating in agile team practices including scrums and planning exercises;
  • Evaluating and prototyping new tools and technologies, both open source and commercial;
  • Working with the team to figure out how to integrate tools together and automate provisioning, configuration, and management;
  • Writing software and scripts necessary to automate tasks;
  • Developing automated tests for the functionality that has been introduced;
  • Building and maintaining infrastructure to support the team;
  • Documenting processes and best practices; and
  • Working collaboratively with the team to resolve issues and progress tasks.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience

  • Enthusiastic contributor, willingness to learn new skills and tools, and strong sense of ownership;
  • Loves to work in a team environment, developing consensus rather than going it alone;
  • Ability to analyze complex issues, develop and recommend options, and implement solutions;
  • Excellent communication and time management skills;
  • Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills;
  • Disciplined approach to software engineering;
  • Experience working with scripting languages such as Python and Bash;
  • Experience with the Linux operating system and command-line interface; and
  • Exposure to development tools including Git, Jira, and Jenkins.

Assets

  • Experience with test automation frameworks such as Robot Framework and Selenium;
  • Experience with the setup and provisioning of tools using technologies like Puppet, Ansible, Foreman, Cobbler, Python and Bash;
  • Experience with Docker and container technologies;
  • Knowledge of infrastructure support tools like Active Directory, ELK stack, TICK stack, Artifactory; and
  • Knowledge of IT infrastructure and configuration including networking, storage (Ceph), and hypervisors (Xen, VMWare, KVM).

Education

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or College Diploma in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.

Must be able to obtain and maintain Canadian Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment. Eligibility to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
