Project/Program Overview

The Land Command Support System (LCSS) is the system of systems that primarily supports the Canadian Army in operations by providing commanders with the information and information services required to make effective and timely command and control decisions about their forces. It is an interconnected network of digital communications and information systems by which the data needed to plan, direct and control tactical land operations is communicated, stored, processed and displayed.


Our first and foremost priority remains the health and safety of our colleagues. As a result, this role will be working remotely for the foreseeable future. The primary location of this role is Ottawa.


We currently have an opportunity for a co-op student to join our dynamic team of engineers and assist with performing design, analysis documentation, test development and implementation of software on one of our many programs. You will participate in code reviews, identify and resolve issues and work with our knowledgeable engineers to ensure the best product. 


The responsibilities and range of activities may vary, but in general will include:

  • Assisting and supporting lead engineers and team members
  • Performing some basic design and/or analysis functions
  • Documenting the analysis, design and test in accordance with development standards
  • Implementing some software to meet the requirements
  • Developing and performing tests and debug of code
  • Identifying defects, resolving issues and verifying changes
  • Supporting and performing system level test and integration efforts
  • Participating in code reviews


  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience working on software development projects
  • Experience using third generation programming languages such as C#, Java, or C++
  • Experience with software engineering processes and tools
  • Experience with any of the following development tools is highly desirable:
    • Microsoft Visual Studio
    • CodeCollaborator
    • RTC
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills
  • Enthusiastic contributor, willingness to learn new skills and takes on ownership of work
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment, with minimum supervision

Must be able to obtain and maintain Canadian Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment. Eligibility to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
