Project/Program Overview

General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is staffing an exciting co-op opportunity to contribute to the design, development, and delivery of the mission software on-board the CP-140 Aurora long-range patrol aircraft operated by the Royal Canadian Air Force. The mission software is responsible for orchestrating the aircraft sensor suite (e.g. radar, electro-optics, etc.) in support of detecting, tracking, and identifying targets of interest.


As a member of  an agile development team, the successful candidate will apply an acceptance test-driven development approach to contribute to all parts of the software development process, including designing, implementing, and testing software features for the product.


This role will be a combination of working remotely and onsite at our Ottawa, Ontario office. We have a number of measures in place for onsite working – our top priority remains the health and safety of our colleagues


  • Working with team members to plan, design, implement, and test software features.
  • Ensuring that software features meet the established acceptance criteria and definition of 'done'.
  • Participating in scrum events, including daily scrums, sprint reviews, sprint planning sessions, and sprint retrospectives.
  • Contributing to the product backlog refinement sessions and requirements workshops.  
  • Sharing knowledge with other team members.


  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience with developing software in a Linux operating system
  • Experience with unit testing, integration testing, and acceptance test-driven development
  • Disciplined approach to software engineering


  • Experience with Ada, Python, Robot Framework, Qt, Java, C, and/or C++ languages
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, DOORS, Git, and/or Clearcase tools
  • Experience with an agile development framework

Must be able to obtain and maintain Canadian Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment. Eligibility to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
