Co-op Systems Engineer Student 4-16 Months - Summer

General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada currently has a requirement for a Co-op Systems Engineer Student for a minumum 4 months within our Land and Joint Systems Business Area. This role will include system design, software and hardware design, system integration, and system validation. The system engineering team consists of several engineers each focusing on top of the line software, hardware components and services that is being developed and integrated throughout this program. The successful candidate will be a student that has a passion to define and develop the system solution for brand new capabilities in an ever growing industry.

Based remotely:

Our first and foremost priority remains the health and safety of our colleagues. As a result, this role will be working remotely for the foreseeable future. The primary location of this role is Ottawa.

The responsibilities and range of activities will vary, but in general will include:

• Perform System requirements analysis and development
• Participate in systems and software design and trade studies from brand new Software capabilities on Windows and Linux Virtual Machines
• Prepare, review and execute written test plans and test procedures
• Identify system defects, resolve issues and verify solutions have been correctly implemented
• Perform System integration activities in a lab environment
• Provide technical support during higher level integration and qualification testing
• Perform Software and equipment configuration, upgrades and maintenance in a lab environment
• Participate in an Agile team
• Documenting the analysis, design and test in accordance with development standards
• Perform design, analysis and/or test functions under the mentorship of senior engineers
• Document his/her analyses, designs and tests (e.g., architecture diagrams, UML diagrams, tech notes, design documents, test plans and test reports) in the format prescribed by standard templates

Qualifications

• Exposure to requirement analysis, system design, integration, and test processes and methodologies
• Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment, with minimum supervision
• Enthusiastic contributor, willing to learn new skills and take on ownership of work
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills
• Desire to participate in large scale military system design and development

Ideally you may also have experience in

• Experience with configuring or installing network devices
• Experience with Virtual Machines
• Experience with Linux
• Experience in one or more modern programming languages (C++, Java, Python, etc.)

Must be able to obtain and maintain Canadian Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment. Eligibility to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
