  • Project/Program Overview

    Two Co-op Students are required on the Test Automation Team. The Test Automation Team is responsible for the planning, development, integration, and support of test automation initiatives across all engineering programs within our Air & Naval Systems division.

     

    The Test Automation Engineering Co-op Student will carry out various test automation and software engineering activities, including prototyping & tool evaluations, design & implementation of test framework capabilities, automated test development, integration & testing, and some DevOps & infrastructure development. The selected candidate will work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative team environment, with peers within their team and also from across other programs. They will get the opportunity to experience a challenging and diverse variety of tasks through the entire software development life cycle.

    Responsibilities

    The responsibilities and range of activities may vary, but in general will include:

    • Participate in team planning exercises;
    • Evaluate and prototype test automation tools and make recommendations;
    • Design, implement, and integrate frameworks and middleware functionality;
    • Develop and integrate automated tests;
    • Build and maintain infrastructure to support test automation activities;
    • Document processes and best practices to support training initiatives;
    • Perform code and documentation reviews;
    • Presentations and demonstrations to team members and peers from other teams; and
    • Work collaboratively with team members to resolve issues and progress tasks.

    Qualifications

    • Enthusiastic contributor, willingness to learn new skills, and strong sense of ownership;
    • Excellent communication and time management skills;
    • Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills;
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment;
    • Disciplined approach to software engineering;
    • Some experience working with scripting languages such as Python or shell scripts; and
    • Ability to analyze complex issues, develop and recommend options, and implement solutions


    Assets

    • Desire to work in the design, development, or testing of large scale military software systems;
    • Experience with test automation frameworks such as Robot Framework;
    • Development in programming languages such as C#, JS, Java, C++, ADA;
    • Experience with Linux environments, including command-line interface and bash scripting;
    • Experience researching, installing, configuring, and learning to use new tools;
    • Experience working with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Jenkins, Docker, Ansible, and Git;
    • Working knowledge of MS Office tool suite including Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint; and
    • Experience working with simulation tools.


    Education

    Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or College Diploma in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.

     

    Minimum 10 year consecutive residence in Canada – for Canadian Secret Security Clearance
    Applicants will be required to obtain/hold a valid and current Canadian security clearance to gain access to the classified spaces, information and equipment in order to perform the work associated with this position.
